Identify the unclear pronoun references in the following paragraph. Where necessary, rewrite the sentence so that all pronoun references are clear. 15=5

  1. King Lear, a father of three daughters -Goneril, Regan and Cordelia – ruled his kingdom for many years and arrived almost at the end of their days. He was very much tired of it and decided to divide the kingdom among three daughters. That would be materialized only after his daughters had expressed her love for him in worlds. Their expression made him both happy and angry – the sweet but false words of Goneril and Regan made him happy whereas the practical but genuine words from Cordelia made him angry. Therefore, he divided his kingdombetween the first two daughter giving Cordelia nothing which he thought a good decision, but by the later activities of the first two daughters proved that it was wrong.

As it is utterly important in our day-to-day life, one should get more access to it. Its necessity is immeasurable. We must have wide knowledge about it. Trade or commerce, science or technology everything in the world is unthinkable the help of computer. We must take the advantage of it. No one can keep pace with the fast changing world without getting this. But use of computer in our country is not up to our expectation. Most of us in our country do not have any knowledge of computer. Computer literacy is must for the students for the all-round development of any nation. So we must provide computer to them somehow or other.

He set his eldest son to watch; but about twelve o’clock he fell asleep; and in the morning one more apple was missing. The next day, the second son was ordered to watch; but at midnight,they too fell asleep.

On the night of March 25, 1971, the Pakistan army fell upon the unarmed sleeping Bangalees. But we were not cowards. They built up strong resistance against them. They fought with courage for long nine months. After nine month’s bloody war and the sacrifice of the freedom fighters, the red sun of independence rose in our soil on the 16 December 1971. Now we remember them with great respect.

He gave each of them a stick of same length and told them submit it to the court the following day. He told them that the person who had stolen the necklace, his stick would increase an inch. When they return home, they kept his sticks as they were.

Timber harvesting is a major reason for the destruction of it. Another way that man is destroying it is by burning it down. The main reason for this is to clear the land for farming. Farmers in rainforest countries are often poor and cannot afford to buy land, Instead, they clear rainforest land to raise their animals or grow their animals or grow their crops.

  1. Television is the part and parcel of modern life. At present we can enjoy various channels through satellite. Among theseDiscovery is very attractive. Both the young and the old people get pleasure from this. The introducer narrates everything in a very attractive way. He turns our attention to the unknown and mysterious world of history and animals. But it is not an unmixed blessing because some channels are leaving some adverse impacts in the mind of the children and young generation. If necessary measures are not taken, they will be completely beguiled.

In Bangladesh, the factors which ease this crime are poverty, lack of awareness of rights, gender discrimination, and social values and norms. Some parents sell their daughter for failure to support them. People of society get trapped under the grip of traffickers with fraudulent expectation of a better life. Some teenage girls are abducted and get transported mostly from Jessore border into India. We have tough law to check the human trafficking. In spite of having statute enacted in most of the countries above 20 million people are falling victim to trafficking globally every year.

Florence Nightingale did not like easy and pleasant occupations of society and instead of going to parties; she visited London hospitals and studied how they were nursed back to health and strength. In those days, they were very ignorant and one was shocked by the roughness and mismanagement that prevailed in English hospitals. So, she went to Germany and studied nursing there. Then she returned to England and began her work for improving the nursing in hospitals. While she was engaged in her work, it broke out in Crimea between Russia and England.

Ans.
